Austin Vacation
KT & I had a great vacation in Austin. It was mellow, which is exactly what we needed. Almost right after KT finished his first year of teaching at MSSD, we took off for Austin.
We landed in Austin in the late morning. Got ourselves a rental car, a Dodge Caliber. Nice car that's somewhat a smaller version of a Toyota Matrix. However, it is a gas guzzler.
Of course, the first person I had to see was one of my closest friends, Barbie. We met up for lunch along with her husband. It was so so so good to see her.
That night, we met up with some Deafies at Taco Cabana: Rosey, Brandy, Jillian (visiting from PA), LaDonna, Julie and her son, Ronlee. It was so good to see them.
Well, what do you know? It rained in Austin. In fact, it flooded in some areas outside of Austin. So, that meant that we couldn't go to Barton Creek Springs or Lake Travis because of the high levels of bacteria. So, we just went swimming at the community pool in Barbie's subdivision.
However, it was really nice to just relax with a couple of books. Catch up on stuff with Barbie. Eat out at cool places. Check out some places.
Over the weekend, KT & I drove down to San Antonio to see family and friends. Dad seems to doing ok with his wife in the Valley. My other relatives seems to be doing alright in their own ways.
I took KT to the zoo, which is totally different than I remembered as a kid. Isn't it fascinating how things seemed "cool" when you were a kid. But as you get older and return, you're like...what is all this crap?!?!
That night, we went out to the Riverwalk. It's such a great place to go people watching.
Our visit to San Antonio was short and sweet. I only went there just to see my grandmother who was put in a nursing home during Thanksgiving week. (I will blog about that another day.) Plus, I wanted to see my mom's grave.
Well, what can I say? The last time, KT & I went to Austin, we fell in love with it. This time, it only confirmed that we're still in love with Austin. So, guess what? We're thinking of relocating there next year in the summer. That is...if we can find a job. However, we do feel that it will happen. So, all goes well, it's gonna be a fun summer next year!

New MSSD Principal
I'd like to extend a hearty congratulation to Daniel Dukes! Daniel Dukes has been selected as the new MSSD principal.
I'm sure that Daniel is excited about his new position and is eager to begin as principal. I believe he'll begin when Myra Yanke steps down at the end of the school semester.
His wife, Beth, was a classmate of mine while we were graduate students in Deaf Studies at Gallaudet. Of course, through her, I met her husband. Daniel is a wonderful sweet guy.
I'm sure Beth is just as thrilled! :)
Once again, I extend my congratulation to Daniel! *hands waving in air*

Warm Weekend
Boy, what a wonderful warm weekend! I think I felt like a bear, coming out of hibernation.
Friday night, KT and I went out to Thaiphoon to celebrate Kekua's birthday. It was good to see that old bitch. One more year and he joins the 30's club. Now, I'm just waiting for Brad and Cliff to join the club. Of course, by the time they do, I'll be joining the 40's club. Dammit!
Thaiphoon was ok. I was surprised because I had went there before and enjoyed the dining experience there. This time, it was alright. However, I had a grand time bitching with KT, Kekua, Brad, Merritt and Shannon.
Afterwards, we went over to Starbucks for the monthly Deaf GLBT coffee social off of P and 21 Streets. The weather was so nice that some of us opted to hang out outside. The rest huddled inside.
Saturday night, KT and I met up with some friends in Chevy Chase. We dined at Meiwah. The place looked really nice. However, the food was average. I had General Tso's chicken. There was nothing impressive nor spicy with my dish. I've had better Chinese food at Yum's.
Anyways, conversations with these friends are always hilarious, intellectual and thought-provoking. I could post entries on subjects we've touched that'll last me a month. Hmmm....we'll see about that.
Sunday was sort of a lazy day for me. Rested up. Went to JCPenny and shopped. Went to Marlo and ordered a sofa. We're getting a new sofa!!! Yay!
Came home and watched some episodes of How It's Made. Interesting stuff to learn about how things have been made. It's amazing to see how things are mass produced and custom-made. So, now every time I go shopping, I'll be wondering just how these things were made. You just hafta check it out!
Then, a student from NTID IM'd me for her Deaf Literature class project. We had a good conversation about my background and her interest in interpreting. It was just a nice surprise.
A couple of more weeks and I'm done with teaching most classes. I'll have my online class until June. Then, it's summer time for me!!!

Below, Liz took a picture of us at the recent DPHH at Clyde's in Chevy Chase. (I hate surprise pictures!!! Ah well.)

I looked better here, taken by Rob Rice.

B-day & GWTW

Gotta say "Happy Birthday!" to Kekua! Have a blast! *mwah*
**********

Last night, I finally finished watching Gone With the Wind. I know, I know...what kind of fag am I for not watching it earlier. Well, shut up, y'all! Better late then never, right?
Anyways, I loved it! I love Scarlett and her sassy remarks. She keeps on going and going with her bitchy attitude until Rhett tells to just stop it.
Boy, talk about a long movie! However, it was the kind that I didn't mind watching. I just loved the sceneries and the dialogues. Of course, KT and I were commenting to each other about some of the acting. Nonetheless, I understood why it was a classic. It was just done beautifully!
So, appreciate what you have now, not what you wish for.
********

If you love watermelon, you can say you've been eating your veggies. Oklahoma wants to declare the watermelon as the state vegetable. The reason is that watermelon is a member of the cucumber family.
So, instead of green beans or broccoli on the side, serve watermelons!

Support Beth
I blogged about Beth and her upcoming marathon and I thought I'd doing it again.
Beth will be running in the Rock and Roll Marathon in Phoneix, Arizona on January 14th. She is the only Deaf person running in this marathon (as far as we know). She even has her own interpreter who is also running in the marathon. How cool is that!?!
Anyways, Beth is running for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This Society has done numerous research with the hope of finding a cure for those afflicted. Beth has been consistent with the training. She's extremely proud that she can run 20 miles and survive. So, I'm asking you all to support her in reaching her goal. You can contribute at her donation page.
Beth is a wonderful friend of mine. Like me, she is a transplant from Texas, living in DC. I first met her at Gallaudet when we were both graduate students of ASL & Deaf Studies. We do pick on each other endlessly, yet band together when people pick on Texas. LOL She's a great person that I'm glad to have formed a friendship with.
