Friends & Boy Scouts

A question is posed in regards to whether GLBTs should cease from supporting fundraisers by children who are members of an organization, such as Boy Scouts, who are clearly against GLBTs or if we should just shut our mouths and support for the sake of the children.

I know! It's been AGES! *HONEST*

So said the girl in Poltergeist II, "[he's] baaaaaaaaaack!". Well, we'll see if I can do this on a regular basis!

Thought I'd post a video below. Lemme know what you think...

Birthday Weekend

I had a good birthday last weekend. Turned 33. I keep telling myself that it's just a number. So far, seems to be working.

Basically had an easy day relaxing while KT and Cliff busied themselves. Saturday night, they had invited Kekua, Manny and Merritt over for a wine and pasta dinner. Lovely!

Then, we were going to enjoy the rest of the evening by watching movies. We saw Dead Silence. It was about dummies coming to life to avenge their murdered ventriloquist. O.....k. Then, we were going to watch Hills Have Eyes 2 but it just could not keep my attention. Instead, most of us moved to the dining room and played Settlers of Catan.

A couple of friends of ours had introduced KT and I to the German game. We would play the game every now and then. At our recent trip to Rehoboth Beach, we saw this game at a games store and bought it without hesitation. Now, it is the game to play. The cards are already starting to be dog-eared.

Settlers of Catan is a trading game, using brick, wood, wool, ore and wheat. Your goal is to get 10 points by building roads, settlements and cities. This is only possible through trading. It's a fairly simple and wonderful game. However, you have to keep your eyes peeled with whom you're trading with. You never know that you'll be helping your opponent win.

D-oh

In my previous post, I bitched about how Amazon.com had messed up my order for the HP7 book.

Well, I checked my other email address and discovered that I had actually pre-ordered a copy through BN.com. (That is, Barnes & Noble.)

But still, I get to bitch about not having my book on time. I was supposed to get it on Saturday, like Carrie was supposed to get hers. So, I decided to track the shipment. It's somewhere in some place or in some UPS truck in Landover.

Ugh! It's supposed to be in my hands last Saturday. I better get it today!

Good thing I saw this email because I was planning to stand in line at Barnes & Noble during my lunch hour. I found out yesterday that BN is expecting another shipment of HP7 today.

So, now, I have to wait all day to find out if I get my book in the mail or not.

No Harry Potter

That fuckin' sucks!

Carrie commented in my previous post that she got an email from Amazon.com that her Harry Potter 7 book was being prepared for shipping.

I was like "whaaaaa?" Cuz I didn't get that email.

However, the next day, I got an email telling me that the same book was being prepared for a friend that I had pre-ordered as his birthday gift.

I was like "whaaaaa?" Where's mine? I had pre-ordered mine first before ordering for a friend.

Apparently, Amazon.com misunderstood my order and made my copy as a gift for my friend.

Dumbfuck, Amazon!

So, now I don't have a copy! *wah*

So, I gotta go out and find a bookstore that even has any copies left.

*wah*

HP5 & Transformers

Well, last Friday, I was all excited because I was gonna go see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Initially, I wasn't planning to see it. I had checked, the night before, on Fomdi for any captioned showtimes of the movie and found nothing. However, a friend told me that there was one in Potomac Mills.

So, I thought, yes! So, KT & I had set up a plan to go see it.

We get there and met our friend there. Got to our seats and settled in. However, I started to get a sinking feeling that something was wrong like the movie wasn't captioned. I didn't see any other Deafies there. (You know by spotting anyone signing.) But then, I thought just how many people would be willing to drive out to Potomac Mills.

The movie starts and there was no captions. Arrrrgggghhhh! So, I walked out to get a manager. He explained that they do offer captions but it is RWC (Rear Window Captioning). Don't get me wrong, I don't mind RWC. However, with RWC, you have to come really early to get the best seating for the best view of the captions. The room was pretty much full when we seated ourselves down. In addition, I had already set myself up for captions on the screen, not on the goose-necked display panel.

So, we all walked out and got our money back and a couple of free passes.

KT mentioned that he noticed that Regal Cinemas are just about the only ones that offer open captions (such as the one in Chinatown). The others (such as AMC Theatres) do RWC. So, that's something to keep in mind.

We were informed by a friend about a captioned movie of Transformers in Chinatown on Sunday. Now, I grew up with the Transformers cartoons and toys. (By the way, as a kid, my favorite was Bumblebee. What was yours?) But, somehow, I wasn't thrilled about seeing the movie. I guess it was the trend of flops of those that were originally cartoons to "live" (such as Garfield).

Boy, I was IMPRESSED with Transformers! This was one of the best movies that I've seen this year. This is what you would call "action-packed". Plus, I don't think any one of us had expected it to be funny as well. If you haven't seen it, you gotta go.

I have to warn you that it is a long movie. When the movie was over, I left with a full bladder that threatened to burst. When a movie is really good, I don't leave the auditorium. So, get a kid-sized drink if you wanna the whole movie.

Also, it's been a LONG time since I've ever said about a movie that I wouldn't mind seeing again. With Transformers, I'd see it again.

Meanwhile, I'm still waiting to see the Harry Potter movie. Plus, the last book of the series comes out this week!!!!!!!! *shrieks*
